Overview

The Director of Packaging is responsible for leading all aspects of packaging development, engineering, and operations to ensure Built products are delivered with the highest standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and consumer appeal. This leader will oversee packaging design, material sourcing, vendor partnerships, and packaging line optimization. The role requires a strategic thinker who is also hands-on, with a proven ability to scale packaging operations in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead packaging operations across multiple production lines, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with safety and food industry standards.

• Optimize packaging line performance, implementing Lean and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize throughput and reduce waste.

• Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement to evaluate and source packaging materials, negotiating cost-effective supplier agreements.

• Oversee packaging equipment maintenance, upgrades, and capital investment projects.

• Establish and monitor KPIs for packaging efficiency, material yield, and downtime reduction.

• Ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, food safety, labeling requirements).

• Develop and coach a high-performing packaging team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and safety.

• Support sustainability initiatives by identifying eco-friendly packaging solutions and reducing overall material usage.

• Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to align packaging strategies with business growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

• 7+ years of packaging experience in food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

• Strong knowledge of packaging machinery, automation, and packaging material science.

• Proven track record in packaging line optimization, continuous improvement, and cost reduction. • Experience managing supplier relationships and sourcing packaging components.

• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and project management skills.

• Strong understanding of FDA/USDA food safety regulations and labeling requirements.

• Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent experience preferred.

• Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
